About Shivaji Nagar

Shivajinagar was earlier known as Bhambvade. Later it came to known as Bhamburde.[1] During the Peshwa era, a factory making hand crafted paper operated from Bhamburde. The Patil (head) of the village were Shirole (Patil) family who also were Shiledar (Warriors) in the Maratha army. The family is a renowned political family today. After independence, the name was changed to Shivajinagar. The Bhamburde village limits consisted of main Bhamburde gaothan (now Shivajinagar gaothan), Pulachi wadi (now Deccan), Wadarwadi (now S.B. Road area) and Wakdewadi settlements. The Mumbai – Pune old national highway begins from Shivajinagar which links Pune to Mumbai. MSRTC operates a bus station that connects Pune to almost all cities in Maharashtra as well in neighboring states. Shivajinagar is well connected to other parts of the city by local PMPML buses. Shivajinagar has Shivajinagar railway station. Pune to Lonavla suburban trains and few long-distance trains make a stop here.
