Setting a basket full of lemons, at the centre of your table to add a pop of fresh colour in your living room is now a summer favourite. And don't just stop at lemons, a centrepiece can hold just about anything you fancy! A bouquet of wildflowers or even a fragrant batch of potpourri. We bring you a simple and economical DIY method to make your centrepiece. Not only will this bring a fun element to your dining table, but summers will also look a lot more inviting.

All you need for this quick summer project are wooden boards of different heights (its a good idea to sketch out a diagram of the kind of centrepiece you want). Along with that, you will need some measuring tape, a saw, sandpaper, wood glue, clamps, some paint and paint brushes, and lastly, some nails.

Start with sawing the wood into five pieces. Four short planks for the sides, and the last one for the base of the centrepiece box. After cutting the boards down to size, sandpaper the sides well to smoothen the edges.

Now slowly start glueing all the pieces on the base wood first. After the glue dries out, stick the sides together. Remember to use the clamp, so there is little space for movement.

Once the glue dries out completely, gently hammer in some nails for extra strength and support.

Take a step back to admire your handcrafted centrepiece box! If you're one for au naturale looks, leave the box as it is. If not, slap on a coat of paint and let it dry. Your centrepiece box is ready to be filled in.
