1) Trial Runs Between Baiyappanahalli and K. R Puram Metro Station started

The trial run between the much-awaited Baiyappanahalli and K R Puram Metro stations has finally begun yesterday. It is most likely that the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Ltd will start operations on this new stretch by the end of August. This new 2 km stretch is part of the purple line that will connect Kengeri to Whitefield. The station name in this stretch is Jyotipuram, which also happens to be the only. The stretch is going to be joining the newly launched Purple line -Whitefield and KR Puram. Once this link is connected, it is expected to cut down the travel time between Kengeri to Whitefield to 60 minutes from 1 hr 30 minutes.


2) New Metro Line Proposed By Karnataka Govt Between Hebbal and Sarjapur

In the recent State Budget, the Karnataka government has proposed the construction of a 37 Km new metro line between Hebbal and Sarjapur. The project which is estimated to cost ₹15,000 crore is yet to receive approval from the Union government. The lines will be expanded from Baiyyappanahalli to Krishnarajapura, Kengeri to Challaghatta, Nagasandra to Madawara, and R.V. Road to Bommasandra


3) Bangalore's Largest Metro Station Jayadeva Junction Metro Station to open by 2023

Jayadeva Junction Metro Station on Banerghatta Road is scheduled to see the light of the day by end of 2023. The metro station is the largest multi-level interchange metro station in Bengaluru.

This news is big for commuters in the city as this metro station has been designed in such a way that it can hold 25,000 passengers during peak hours. This station will serve both the Yellow Line from RV Road to Bommasandra and the Pink Line from Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara.

There are two levels at the top of this colossal transportation hub with an underpass, grade road, and road flyover. Officials of the Namma Metro project have set 2023 as the target to start the operations of the Yellow Line Namme Metro and by March 2025 that of the Pink Line Namma Metro.

As the first underground metro system to be established in the South of India, Namma Metro functions under Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL). It works on a hybrid model of transit - Elevated, at grade (on ground level), and underground. At present only two lines are operational - The Green Line and The Purple Line.

Bengaluru Metro Ridership

In September 2021, Namma Metro saw a record ridership of 3 lakh passengers daily after resuming post the second wave of the pandemic. The Whitefield-K R Puram section currently serves around 28,000 passengers daily, and upon connecting the 25.7-km Kengeri-Byappanahalli corridor to this section, the expected daily ridership is projected to increase from 75,000 to one lakh. The entire Kengeri-Whitefield route will take approximately 60-70 minutes of travel time.


Namma Metro Mobile App

The Namma Metro mobile app, launched in 2013 and re-launched in 2016, allows users to buy and recharge smart cards online, find nearby metro stations, and access information on fares, route maps, train frequencies, and parking.


Bangalore Namma Metro: Timings

The Namma Metro ensures seamless connectivity for commuters with frequent train services running at intervals of 4-5 minutes throughout the week. From Monday to Friday, the metro operates from 5 am to 11 pm, providing an extensive transportation network for daily commuters.

On the second and fourth Saturdays, as well as on public holidays, the metro service begins at 6 am and continues until 10:30 pm, accommodating the leisure and travel needs of the weekend crowd. Meanwhile, on Sundays, the metro starts operations at 7 am and runs until 11 pm, offering reliable transportation options even on weekends.


Bangalore Namma Metro: Fare

To make travel affordable and convenient for passengers, the fare structure is designed to be inclusive.

The minimum fare is set at Rs 10, while the maximum fare, based on the distance traveled from the boarding station, is approximately Rs 45. This fare system allows passengers to pay according to their journey's length, making it cost-effective for both short and long-distance travelers.

To make travel easier and cheaper, Bengaluru Metro will also soon Introduce discounted tickets for medium and large groups.

Namma Metro's fare system uses an Automated Fare Collection (AFC) system with contactless smart tokens and smart cards. Varshik is a type of smart card available at Rs 50 with a user deposit of Rs 50, valid for one year, and offering a 5% fare discount.

Whether for daily commuting or weekend outings, the metro's service and pricing are tailored to provide a smooth and enjoyable travel experience for everyone.


Bangalore Metro: Rules and Regulations

As per the rules set by Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Ltd, personal baggage should not exceed 15 kg in weight and must not contain any explosive, inflammable, or poisonous substances. Any offences committed on the metro may lead to fines and, in some cases, jail sentences, as per the Metro Railway (Operations and Maintenance) Act, 2002.
