The addition of four new metro routes in Bengaluru is set to reduce travel time as they are likely to be operational by next year.
As per reports, with the incorporation of the new metro routes-
1. Baiyappananalli to Whitefield
2. Kengeri to Challaghatta
3. Nagasandra to BIEC
4. RV Road to Bommasandra
Bengaluru's metro network is set to go up to 97 kms from 55.6 Kms. This comes as a much needed relief after Bengaluru being recently termed as the 'World's second most congested city'.
Purple Line : Baiyappananalli to Whitefield
Reports state that the much-awaited 16-kilometer Purple Line stretch between Baiyappanahalli and Whitefield will be commissioned this month.
The metro route is expected to benefit around 3 lakh passengers and will be a huge time-saver as commuters at present are forced to commute over 2 hrs to reach whitefield from different parts of the city.
A 15.81 km stretch will run between Baiyappanahalli and Whitefield. It will be divided into two reaches - R1A, which runs from Baiyappanahalli to Seetharama Palya, and R1B, which runs from Seetharama Palya to Whitefield.
Reports state that the total commute time in Purple Line Metro from Baiyappananalli to Whitefield will be 72 minutes with stops at Benniganahalli, KR Puram, Mahadevapura, Garudacharpalya, Hoodi Junction, Seetharama Palya, Kundalahalli, Nallurhalli, Sri Sathya Sai Hospital, Pattandur Agrahara (ITPL), Kadugodi and Channasandra.
Purple Line: Kengeri to Challaghatta
So far passengers can buy a metro ticket to travel upto Kengeri, however the additional stretch of 1.9km to Challagahatta on the Purple line is yet to be made operational.
Reports state that even though 98 per cent of the work has been completed, Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited BMRCL's focus on Baiyappananalli to Whitefield metro route has delayed the launch of the Challaghata metro route.
Those living in Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout in future will appreciate the metro station. There will be an underpass connecting the Major Arterial Road of the Layout with Challaghatta, making it easier for residents to reach the purple line metro station.
Green Line : Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre BIEC to Nagasandra
Known as the city's slowest Metro section in terms of construction pace, the Nagasandra-Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre corridor is likely to see light at the end of the tunnel soon. As per reports 84 per cent work on the stretch from Manjunath Nagar to Madavara has been completed and the last station will be BIEC.
Yellow Line : RV Road to Bommasandra
The yellow line and particularly the connectivity to Electronic city through this metro route is expected to make the lives of people traveling to Hosur a lot easier. Due to high traffic in this route, travelling to the Kemepegowda International Airport takes over an hour.
The new metro is likely to be launched in June 2023 and will help decongest this route. The line is 19.143 km long and includes RV Road, Ragigudda, Jayadeva Hospital, BTM Layout, Central Silkboard, Bommanahalli, Hongasandra, Kudlu Gate, Singasandra, Hosa Road, Electronic City, Konappana Agrahara, Huskur Road, Hebbagodi, and Bommasandra as stations.
