Gone are the days where purchasing a house meant just the bare minimum. Now, homebuyers expect more, and developers oblige. Making convenience and the ease of living their prime concern, developers are now offering furnished homes to their customers. A trend made even more popular by the realty giant Rustomjee's tie-up with the Swedish furniture chain IKEA, to design and furnish the former's flats in a township in Mumbai's Virar region. This venture aims to meet the aspirations of young home buyers, with a limited budget without depriving them of style, aesthetics and smart furnishing.
Despite its recent debut in the Indian realty sector, the idea isn't entirely new. Service apartments and co-living spaces have been nurturing this concept for a while now. Both are based on the principle of 'move right in with just your bags', letting their occupants reap the benefits of a fully functional home, without making any investment.
With the average age of the home buyer now touching 35, the idea is a perfect fit for the first time, young home buyers.
In the past too, there have been isolated, feeble attempts to offer the home buyer more than just a house. Online furniture retail firm Urban Ladder entered a tie-up with Tata Homes, in Bengaluru in 2017, offering home buyers a vast selection of furniture and furnishings at a special price. While the project couldn't sustain itself for too long. IKEA promises to penetrate the Indian realty market with more force, hopefully giving modern home buyers, modern homes with contemporary style.
