The Government of India has given the green light to a landmark infrastructure project, a ₹4,500.62 crore six-lane, access-controlled Greenfield High-Speed National Highway in Maharashtra. The project, approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is set to significantly enhance the state's transport and logistics network.
This crucial highway will connect Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) Port (Pagote) to Chowk and will be developed under the Build, Operate, and Transfer (BOT) mode. The initiative aligns with the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, aiming to improve connectivity between major infrastructure hubs, decongest roadways, and enhance economic activity.

The new highway is expected to be a game-changer for Maharashtra's transport network. It will provide seamless connectivity between JNPA Port, the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, NH-66 (Mumbai-Goa), and NH-48, while also improving access to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport, set to commence operations in 2025.
Currently, cargo and passenger vehicles traveling from JNPA Port to NH-48 and Mumbai-Pune Expressway face major delays due to bottlenecks at Palaspe Phata, D-Point, Kalamboli Junction, and Panvel. With traffic congestion reaching nearly 1.8 lakh Passenger Car Units (PCU) per day, the new express corridor is expected to reduce travel time and operational delays.
