In a move to uplift the lives of unorganised sector workers, the Tamil Nadu government has launched the TN Labor Registration scheme 2024. Under this scheme, the government has established an online portal at labour.tn.gov.in where workers can register and receive Rs. 1,000 per month as well as some dry rations.

To get the benefits applicants must get themselves registered. Once the application is submitted, the Labour Department will review it and provide a registration certificate, which must be displayed at the workplace.

The registration process is mandatory for any business, shop, or commercial establishment operating in Tamil Nadu under the Tamil Nadu Shops and Establishments Act, 1947. Employers must maintain proper registers and records of their employees, including a Wage Register in Form R, as per the amendments made to the Contract Labour (Regulation and Abolition) Rules.

Overall, the scheme aims to provide social security and welfare benefits to unorganized sector workers, while the Shops and Establishments Act regulates working conditions, wages, and other labor rights in the state
