The harbour-facing chunk of metropolitan Mumbai lying on the eastern side of the island city is known as Eastern Suburbs. The Central Suburbs are comprising of key location Ghatkopar, Powai Vikhroli, and are starting from Kurla, Chembur to right until Mumbai meets Thane. The Eastern Suburbs are well known for their concentration of excellent educational institutions like the Somaiya Group of Colleges and IIT Bombay, and health institutions like The Godrej Memorial and Fortis. Proposed Metro Line 2,4, 5 and 6 are covering almost all the landmarks of the Eastern Suburbs. Metro Line 1 is functional and covers parts of Ghatkopar area, along with the suburban railway system whose central and harbour line caters to about 20 locations across these suburbs. Also, a successful monorail line runs from Chembur to Wadala, which is due for extension in near future. Eastern suburbs are often sought upon for decent, pocket-friendly housing in Mumbai, at least on a usual basis.
