How to own a pet in a compact apartment
Here are some things you must keep in mind if you’re looking to move into a new home with your four-legged friends.

Our pets are not accessories to our homes, but actual members of our families. They make our homes a warmer, happier place and we do everything in our capacity to ensure that they grow and play in a safer environment. Being told that your pet is not welcome in your new home is gut-wrenching, and nothing can be worse than entering a new phase in your life, without your loved ones. Here are some things you must keep in mind if you're looking to move into a new home with your four-legged friend.

1. Keep the owners informed

If you are renting a new place, be sure to inform your new owners. They might be agreeable, but it is always a good idea to give them a heads up. Not only does it set good precedence, but they will also be able to help you make your new home pet-friendly.member, if your owner is kept in the dark over such essential issues, your tenancy can come under the scanner.

2. Speak to the resident welfare associations (RWA)

Before you purchase your new home, sit down with the society committees and resident welfare associations and disclose your intention to stay with pets. While these associations aren't legally allowed to object as per the Animal Welfare Board of India regulations, it's a good idea to intimate them, to avoid future altercations. Do keep in mind that these groups can't issue any notice regarding the size or breed legal pets, which will be accepted in the apartment. Despite this, some societies do have restrictions on certain breeds of dogs, claiming that they can make create problems for other residents of the building.

3. Acclimatize your pet with your neighbours

Pets often have some reservations when it comes to new faces and don't respond well immediately. Introducing your neighbours to your pets would allow the latter forge warm relations in their immediate vicinity. When your neighbours are friendly with your pets, they are also more likely to help take care of them.

4. Put a cautionary sign on your door

Putting a sign that cautions the visitor about the presence of your pet is a good idea, as many can be uncomfortable in the presence of one, and it gives them a heads up. This also helps ward off unwanted visitors and solicitors.
