All countries of the world and the places within them are divided by border lines. But books? Books are believed to be without borders. An extension of this belief is the Haskell Library- a library which is literally located on the US-Canada border!
All libraries let their readers enter and live in an imaginary world of books. But this library offers more than just that. It allows one to be physically in two places at once! The black line (a strip of masking tape) running along its floor marks the international border between the two countries. The border separates the towns of Derby Line (Vermont, USA) and Stanstead (Quebec, Canada).
The front door, community bulletin board, and the children's books sections are in the USA; the remainder of the sections and the reading room is in Canada.
An additional feature of the library is the Opera Hall. The stage of the hall is in Canada while the seats are in the USA. One can literally watch a play in Canada while still staying in the USA!
