Elizabeth Magie, the original inventor of the popular game 'Monopoly' came up with it as a form of protest against America's property monopolists.
The game was called The Landlord's Game and had two sets of rules - "Prosperity", an anti-monopolist set in which all players were rewarded when wealth was created, and "Monopolist", a monopolist set in which players had to create monopolies and crush opponents.
The dual approach was aimed at making people realize the moral superiority of the first system against the other, and at demonstrating how different approaches to property ownership could lead to different social outcomes.
