Rahul Dravid was born on 11th January, 1973 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. He was born in a Maharashtrian family of Sharad Dravid, his father and Pushpa Dravid, his mother. Dravid started playing cricket when he was 12 years old, along with hockey. He had almost considered getting into hockey, but soon realized that he wasn't fit for the sport.
Dravid did his schooling from St. Joseph's Boys High School, and completed his graduation in commerce from St. Joseph's College of Commerce, both from Bangalore itself.
