Once a sleepy hamlet near Pune, Hinjewadi has transformed into a major IT hub of India. Located about 20 km from Pune, Hinjewadi is spread over a sprawling 1000 acres and is home to national and international IT companies like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, Geometric, etc. Most people think that Hinjewadi is solely for IT companies. That is not true. It also houses non IT companies like Emcure and Henkel. Hinjewadi is being developed in phases. Three phases of the Rajiv Gandhi IT Park have already been developed, and plans are afoot to develop two more phases. There are more than 100 IT / ITES companies in Hinjewadi. With revenues exceeding Rs. 30000 crores, Hinjewadi has a major share in the total IT exports of Maharashtra state. With the state government determined to nurture Hinjewadi by providing good connecting roads (Hinjewadi - Balewadi, Hinjewadi - Kasar Amboli, etc.), more and more IT companies are getting attracted to Hinjewadi.
