AR Rahman was born in a Tamil family and his father, R.K. Sekhar, composed scores for the Malayalam film industry before he passed away when Rahman was just nine years old. This foundation was started by AR Rahman and his mother, Kareema Begum, in 2006 which is a non-profit organization. In this, The Sunshine Orchestra is one such project wherein the economically underserved children are given the musical training for free. They are taught both Indian and Western musical traditions. This is a step to bring people together and out of the cultural differences.
The foundation also has programs like Strings Ensemble which includes instruments
like violin, viola, cello and double bass; and Brass Ensemble.
