Private equity investments in the retail real estate segment have accumulated to ₹5,500 crores from 2015 to Q-1 2018, stated JLL report- Indian Retail: Stepping Up the Game. In the first quarter of this year alone, close to ₹1,000 crores were invested in retail properties.
Having shown confidence in Indian retail realty's future trends, investors are starting to make long-term commitments towards the sector. The report estimates that about 90 shopping malls spread over 34 million sq. ft. would come in the market by 2022. Out of these, 62 per-cent will be 'superior' malls, 28 per-cent will be 'average' malls while around 10 per-cent will be of the 'poor' category.
